HardangerfjordHardanger is a favourite destination, well-known for fjord landscape, flowering fruit trees and fruit. The distance from Hallingdal to the inner part of Hardanger fjord is short, making Eidfjord a splendid destination for a day-trip. Follow Rv7 to Geilo and over Hardangervidda. This splendid mountain pass is a destination in itself. The road offers fantastic views of well-known landmarks such as Hallingskarvet and Hardangerjøkulen. On the way down to the fjord, stop to see the Vøringsfossen waterfall as it drops down into Måbødalen. In Eidfjord, you can visit the Hardangervidda natursenter. Here you can learn about Hardangervidda's nature in a modern, innovative way. There are opportunities for a tour of the Sima power plant, Norway's largest. Or visit Kjeåsen, a farm that is literally perched on the side of the mountain. After a day seeing the sights in Eidfjord, we recommend that you return the same way over Hardangervidda back to Hallingdal. Then you can stop at one of the places you did not see on the way to Hardanger.

Indre Sognefjord offers some of Norway's most well-known tourist attractions. A day-trip from Hallingdal can be made as a round trip starting either with Rv50 from Hol to Aurland or Rv52 through Hemsedal to Lærdal. Between Aurland and Lærdal, you may choose to drive through the Lærdal tunnel, the world's longest tunnel, or take the Aurland road which is a splendid mountain pass. When you arrive at Flåm, take a ride on the Flåm Railway - an engineering masterpiece and one of Scandinavia's best known attractions. Visit the beautiful and mighty Nærøyfjord as well - where Fylkesbaatane operates vehicle ferries and passenger boats. A side trip from the road between Flåm and Gudvangen leads to Norway's smallest stave church - Undredal stave church from 1147. You will find Borgund stave church from 1150 in Lærdal. Very well preserved, it has retained its original form. In Lærdal at the Norwegian Wild Salmon Centre, learn about the life-cycle of the salmon through an award winning film and exhibitions. Try your luck fishing with the fishing simulator.

Fanitull road and the Panorama roadOn mountain roads between Hallingdal, Hemsedal and Valdres you will experience magnificent mountain landscape. Further along the road, there is a splendid view towards the mountains in Jotunheimen. Starting in Ål, turn off of Rv7 on the road towards Vats. The mountain road ascends from Leveld. At Hemsedal, the trip continues to Valdres via the Panorama road. Leave Rv52 at Ulsåk and follow the road towards Lykkja. At the foot of Skogshorn lies Ulsåkstølen which serves genuine mountain farm fare. The road passes Nøsen and Vaset before it meets E16 a bit west of Fagernes. In Fagernes, visit Valdres Folkemusem. The way back to Hallingdal goes via Rv51 over Golsfjellet. Note that some of the mountain roads are toll roads and that parts of the route are on one lane gravel roads.

Other tripsLillehammerLillehammer with its Olympics facilities and Hunderfossen Familiepark two and a half-hour drive from Gol. The shortest way is via Rv51 over Golsfjellet to the E16 at Aurdal. From there take Rv33 to Dokka and from Dokka, Rv250 to E6 and Lillehammer.

KongsbergThe silver mines at Kongsberg are an exciting attraction a day-trip away from Hallingdal. Several roads lead to Kongsberg, among others Rv40 from Geilo through Numedal, otherwise known as the Medieval Valley (162 km), from Nesbyen over Fv214 to Rødberg, continuing on Rv40 (151 km) and from Flå via Noresund, Modum and Nedre Eiker (120 km).
Modum and KrøderenThe Artists' Valley with main attractions such as Blaafarveværket (Modum) and Krøderbanen (railway) are excellent destinations for a day trip. To get to Blaafarveværket you can either take the road from Bromma via Haglebu, Eggedal and Sigdal or Rv7 and then Rv280 to Modum. If you take the latter of these two alternatives, you will pass Krøderbanen. You could also use both alternatives to make a round trip.
